Nourishing the Roots: Imagination, Wonder, and Play
Darwin knew that our triumphs of invention . . . are the fruits of our ability to reason, to question, and to make observations, but he believed that nothing has been more crucial, more fertile, more responsible for our evolutionary success than our “powers of the imagination, wonder, curiosity, [and] an undefined sense of beauty.”
— Maria Popova,
“Darwin on How to Evolve Your Imagination.”
The Marginalian, January 26, 2025
Our capacity for imagination is most surely one of the taproots of wonder, curiosity, and play—not only for children, but for us adults. Imagination tunes us to surprise and marvel and mystery. Imagination opens us to empathy. Imagination moves us beyond what is to what could be. It inspires us to ask, What if?.
How are you nourishing your imagination as a leader, an educator, a person committed to sustaining wonder and play in your community?
During our time together, we’ll explore the connections between imagination, wonder, and play, and consider how we adults can deepen the roots of imagination in our lives. This gathering is intended to lay a foundation for the thinking we’ll do at the conference in Seattle, as we deepen our understandings of the roots of wonder and play. Please join us if you’ve registered for the conference or if you’re considering attending.
Do not miss this opportunity to begin learning with Ann!
